Kaiser Permanente

The Problem

A new time reporting system was introduced to the IT employees at Kaiser Permanente.
An instructional designer (ID) was needed to create training for the new time reporting
system. The ID also had to help the employees accept this new change in time reporting.

The Solution

Write on Time Solutions (WTS) brought in an ID to develop training for the time
reporting system. The training started with an introduction to the time reporting system.
All its wonderful new features were described. The classroom was full of tension.

The trainer then introduced a game. Employees were paired up. One employee was
selling the new time reporting system. The second employee was the customer. The
salesperson was given a feature list for the time reporting system. While selling the
system, they became more familiar with it. Customers said why they didn’t like it. The
employees changed roles. The customers now were salespeople selling the new system.

During the game debriefing, employees were encouraged to speak their minds. The
classroom was declared a “no karma” zone. No one would be judged for what they said.
Issues were recorded and later addressed by the deployment team. The employees felt
part of the change. Now, the training could go on with the employees ready to learn.

WTS had done it again! The class was a success, and the ID asked to do more. WTS also
created training for a change management system, a quick reference guide for ABT team
workbench, and a deployment kit to standardize software and business implementation.
