PG&E

The Problem

As part of a statewide effort to upgrade the power grid, PG&E, a Northern California utility company, was upgrading all of its customers to SmartMeter™ technology. The SmartMeter™ system uses programmable solid-state meter technology that provides two-way communication between the meter at your home or business and the utility, using secure wireless network technology. This technology is a key part of the smart grid that will lead to more efficient and reliable power, a reduced carbon footprint, and new technologies that will spur green jobs and clean-energy development. This project required changes to many PG&E systems and processes. Employees wanted to be informed on the SmartMeter™ project on an ongoing basis.

The Solution

Working with a change management team, a WTS writer helped produce communication materials that kept employees informed about the project. This writer provided the following services:

  • Acted as webmaster for an internal SmartMeter™ SharePoint-based web site
  • Wrote content for Events, Latest News, and Deployment/Safety Metrics
  • Created imagery for In The Loop internal SmartMeter(TM) newsletter
  • Photographed all team events
